W11 children in L'amico Fritz Opera Holland Park 2011
A small selection of the 2011 cast seen here backstage and on stage in Opera Holland Park’s L’amico Fritz.
They have had a unique experience acting with this professional company as New York orphans in Pietro Mascagni’s lyrical late Italian romantic opera which opened in June to much critical acclaim.

Community performance of Rain Dance
This year, W11 put on two events for the community: an Open Dress Rehearsal for Senior Citizens and a Community Performance for school children. Both events took place at Riverside Studios, and were well attended despite very wintry weather. Groups from Hand to Hand, Holy Trinity Brompton Seniors Group, the Clement James Centre and the Hammersmith and Fulham Children's and Youth Choirs attended as well as groups from many local schools. All those invited to each event enjoyed tea before the show and received a programme as a souvenir of the evening.
What the audience had to say:
"Wow. I thought Rain Dance last night at the rehearsal was stunning. Joyous and very suspenseful, not predictable at all. My guests one aged 95 and the other 85 rang me this morning to say how much they loved it, especially little hares which they found enchanting. They are stuck at home in this weather so it meant a lot to them." Sandra Wilmot, HTB
"Thank you so much for yesterday. What an experience, on a bleak winter day, to find ourselves in the middle of Africa! Everybody in the group loved Rain Dance, the music was delightful, the story thought provoking, and seeing all those talented young people on the stage is always a treat (even more so for the elderly I think). We were very touched by your warm welcome and the delicious tea." Anne Bonavero, Hand to Hand
"The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the performance. One child said to me at the end, ‘Is that the end, Oh I didn’t want it to finish.’ I think that sums up their enjoyment.……hopefully a child from Addison could be performing next year too!" Clare Pugh, Deputy Head Teacher, Addison Primary School

Carmen at Opera Holland Park, June 2010
The profile and achievements of Opera Holland Park are now well known and W11 is proud to have been involved in at least one production every year for the last ten years with this local council run company where “Really, the feel-good factor is so high it should register on the Richter scale.”
This year saw a selection of W11 cast members dressed as young urchins enacting mock bull fights, teasing soldiers and generally strutting their stuff in Bizet’s Carmen. Singing in French and sharing the stage with operatic stars such as Sean Ruane and Tara Venditti, an Evening Standard reviewer particularly noted the young and was impressed with ‘well-drilled kids enjoying their time on stage’.
