W11 Archive
In May 2010 the W11 Opera archive was placed in Kensington Central Library. This was the culmination of a project running over several years, when we tracked down as complete a collection as possible of old programmes, recordings and scores, and incidentally a plethora of other interesting memorabilia along the way.
The next stage was addressing technological changes, so cassette recordings were transferred onto CDs and videos into DVDs, and all was meticulously catalogued. The Library has offered free storage, where the archive will remain indefinitely and where it is now available for consultation through the Local Studies and Archives department. We are extremely grateful to the Library for this facility which enables the achievements of W11 to be preserved as an entity for the future.
Musical Chairs!
After ten highly successful years as Music Director of W11 Opera Philip Colman has sadly laid down his baton. However we are delighted that he has agreed to become a Patron and we look forward to his close involvement for many years to come.
We are thrilled to announce that his place has been taken by Philip Sunderland. Philip is a conductor who has worked with many of this country's Opera Companies. He was chorus master at Opera North where he conducted La Traviata, Sweeney Todd and the Brahms’ Requiem. He has conducted numerous shows for English Touring Opera and has recently conducted for Carl Rosa, Clonter Opera and Opera Brava.
